God Promises

Blessed are they who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart…I have sought your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise. Psalm 119:2 and 58

We find countless promises in the Bible that we may claim as our own if we seek God with all our hearts. Here are ones I discovered from a study of Psalm 119 and related cross references.

God promises to be gracious to us. The definition of grace from God is unmerited favor. We don’t deserve it and can’t earn it. It’s His gift through faith in Jesus. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

God promises unfailing love.  People may let us down, but God’s love for us never fails.

God promises to sustain us. We all face trials that drag us down and sap our strength. The Lord has helped me stand through many situations I never thought I’d get through.  Can you relate?

God promises deliverance, both for life’s challenges here and now and forever. Jesus delivers us from the penalty our sins deserve when we trust in Him (Romans 3:22-24). Through faith in Jesus, God promises salvation. What could be better than forgiveness of our sins and life forever with God in heaven!? That’s His promise. Jesus redeems us from the curse of the law, by becoming a curse for us, making amends for our sin with His very life. What a Savior! (Galatians 3:13).

God promises to defend our cause and hear our prayers. He will defend us when we feel like what we’re facing is a lost cause. How wonderful to know that He listens when we pray and knows everything we face. The Lord promises we will find Him when we seek Him with all our hearts. We may seek Him through prayer, Bible reading, and gathering with other believers.

The Lord does all this for our own good, and blessed is the person who trusts in Him (Psalm 84:11). God promises countless blessings if we seek Him with all our hearts. The One who helps us in that pursuit is the Holy Spirit, God’s ultimate gift. The Spirit will guide us to always seek the Lord with all we are, all we have, and all we face.
